5-year-old dies after being struck by car Saturday on Tobacco Road

A 5-year-old boy died on Christmas Day after being injured attempting to cross Tobacco Road on Saturday.

Just after 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Jeremiah Joel Douse, 5, and his uncle were attempting to cross Tobacco Road near Raintree Drive when they were hit by a 2016 Ford F-150. The victims were transported to AU Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

According to Richmond County coroner Mark Bowen, Douse, of the 3700 block of Raintree Drive, died just after 4:15 p.m. Monday of blunt force trauma. No autopsy will be performed, Bowen said.

The incident remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
