Convicted felon involved in fatal shooting in Hephzibah

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting in Hephzibah.

 

Just after midnight Friday, deputies responded to the 2300 block of Patrick Avenue in reference to a shooting. They discovered one victim who was dead, according to a news release.

Quintin Watkins, 30, of the 2300 block of Boykin Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

Ulysses Reid was confronted by the victim regarding a female witness, according to the sheriff’s office. Reid shot the victim while acting in self-defense.

Reid, a convicted felon, was charged with the possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of firearm by a convicted felon (two Counts), and possession of cocaine. Reid was transported and booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

Reid has not been charged in the shooting death, the sheriff’s office said. Watkins’ body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy, Bowen said.
