Teen arrested, charged in shooting in Aiken

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an early-morning shooting in the 400 block of Palm Drive in Aiken.

 

Nicholas Lashawn Worthy, of Aiken, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of marijuana, a second offense.

The male victim, also 18, was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers by a family member, an Aiken Department of Public Safety news release states.

Officers responded to Palm Drive Thursday after receiving reports of shots being fired and someone running away, according to the news release .

Officers found a pistol, a shoe, and some marijuana behind the residence where Worthy was reportedly last seen, according to police.

Officers then saw a vehicle traveling slowly in the 700 block of Palm Drive and the suspect entering it, it states.

Officers stopped the car and found Worthy with a shoe matching the one from the crime scene, according to the news release.

Worthy was taken into custody.
