Murder indictments returned by grand jury

The Richmond County grand jury returned murder indictments Tuesday in connection with three unrelated Augusta homicides, including one on a 13-year-old boy.

Zitedrick T. Shelly, 13, was indicted on charges of murder, armed robbery and weapon violations in the Oct. 5 fatal shooting of 61-year-old Mable Jordan.

Officers at AU Medical Center heard a gunshot not far from the emergency room around 12:45 a.m. Shelley was spotted running from the scene where Jordan was found. He was found hiding nearby with a handgun, according to statements made in an October court hearing.

At the time of the shooting, Shelley was a runaway from the home where the department of juvenile justice had placed him with an ankle monitor after he was accused of committing a series of crimes, including two armed robberies and a felony sexual battery.

The grand jury also returned an indictment against Victor R. Adams, 38, charging him with murder in the Sept. 30 fatal shooting of 24-year-old T’Sean J. Carter in Hephzibah.

And the grand jury indicted Tyedon D. Burton, 25, on murder charges in the Sept. 17 fatal shooting of Malcolm M. Quarterman. The 22-year-old victim died the day after he was shot in the Big Oak Park at Wheeler and Boy Scout roads.
