Crews are working to control a fire on Ray Owens Road in Columbia County, according to authorities.
The eight to 10 acre fire was reported after 1 p.m. in the 3500 block of Ray Owens Road in Appling, according to the Columbia County Fire Department.
The fire occurred near a cell tower, according to Cassidy Harris, Columbia County’s director of public relations. She said crews are on scene and have everything under control.
Heavy smoke has caused low visibility in the area and motorist are urged to seek alternate routes, Harris said.
No injuries have been reported.
