ATHENS, Ga. — An alleged serial peeping Tom who authorities said came to Athens to spy on female University of Georgia students in their homes and sorority houses was recently charged in a 31-count indictment returned by a Clarke County grand jury.
Patrick Joseph McElroy, 30, of Colbert, was arrested on Sept. 29 for allegedly spying on a 19-year-old UGA student through the bedroom window of her Towne Club apartment on Springdale Street.
He was arrested when found hiding in the trunk of his car in the parking lot of the student’s complex, Athens-Clarke County police said.
According to police, McElroy was in possession of images that linked him to other peeping Tom incidents, including at a South Milledge Avenue sorority house, according to police.
A grand jury indicted McElroy on 11 counts of peeping Tom, 16 counts of burglary, three counts of computer invasion of privacy and one count of obstruction, according to an indictment filed Dec. 5 in Clarke County Superior Court.
Since his arrest, McElroy has been held at the Clarke County Jail.
