Man sentenced to prison for traveling to Augusta to have sex with minor

A man who admitted he traveled to Augusta to have sex with a 14-year-old was sentenced Thursday to nearly five years in prison.

Kenneth Dale Smith pleaded guilty earlier this year in U.S. District Court to one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual contact. On April 26, Smith traveled from South Carolina, according to the indictment. A second charge of possession of child pornography was dismissed as part of the plea negotiation.

Smith was sentenced to 56 months in prison, which will be served without the possibility of parole, followed by 20 years on supervised release.
