Area musicians to host concert benefiting Augusta toy drive

A concert benefiting an annual toy drive in Augusta is scheduled for Friday.

Augusta’s Tunes for Tots will be held at 9 p.m. at Sky City on Broad Street.

The benefit concert will feature acts Bethany and the Southside Boys, Happy Bones, Chris Ndeti and Mark Janousek, Philip Lee Jr., Village Sticks Brandy Douglas and more.

Augusta musician Bethany Davis said the aim is to spread holiday cheer while giving back to the community.

“It’s all about musicians, promoters, businesses giving back to the children of our community during the holidays,” she said in an email. “We Augustans stick together so what better time to prove it than the Christmas season.”

Admission for the event is free with a donation of one children’s toy. Donations and toys collected will benefit the James Brown Christmas Toy Giveaway on Dec. 22.

Deonna Brown Thomas, president of the James Brown Foundation, said nearly 500 children are registered for the Giveaway. She estimated more than 1,500 toys have been collected for the event.

“We are very thankful to those who decided to donate to the James Brown Toy Giveaway,” she said Wednesday. “We are thankful for their trust in the foundation to do its mission.”

Monetary and toy donations will be collected until the Dec. 22 Giveaway. Interested persons can make monetary donations online at the James Brown Foundation website jamesbrownfamilyfdn.org or by mail to P.O Box 692. Toys can be donated at Deshawns Seafood in North Augusta or at My Wireless on Gordon Highway or Davis Road.
