Former students receive $15,000 in settlement

Two former Richmond County students each received $15,000 in a settlement with the Richmond County School System on Nov. 28 after being molested by a school janitor, according to court documents.

In July 2014, Reginald Price pleaded guilty to molesting a Murphey Middle School student in March 2012 and a C.T. Walker Traditional Magnet School student in September 2013. He was sentenced to two years in prison and eight years probation.

Price was fired from an Aiken County school in 2011 after he was accused of fondling a student. He failed to disclose the accusation and charges, which were later dropped, when he applied for a position with Richmond County.

The two Richmond County victims filed lawsuits in September 2016, naming the school system and members of its leadership of negligence in hiring and retaining Reginald Price, failing to report the victims’ statements that Price molested them, as required by law, and violation of the victims’ constitutional rights.
