Augusta shooting victim identified

The victim of an early morning fatal shooting in Augusta has been identified

Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified James Kenneth Avera, 57, of Augusta, as the person killed Monday in the 1800 block of Karian Drive

Richmond County dispatch received a call about the shooting at 7:53 a.m. . Avera was shot at least one time and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:15 a.m., according to a news release.

Another person was also shot and is at Augusta University Hospital. The person’s condition is unknown at this time, Coroner Mark Bowen said in an email.

Avera was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab for an autopsy.
