At least three injured in six-car accident at Highland Avenue-Gordon Highway intersection

A traffic accident involving six cars at the intersection of Gordon Highway and Highland Avenue in Augusta sent several people to the hospital Friday.

A head-on collision caused a chain reaction of multiple vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office. Serious injuries were reported with at least three people transported to AU Medical Center. One vehicle crossed into the center of the highway, causing a rollover. The medical condition of those injured had not been made available late Friday.

The call came in shortly before noon, according to Richmond County Sheriff’s Office dispatch. The accident prompted the sheriff’s office to briefly close Highland Avenue from Damascus Road to Gordon Highway on Friday.
