Augusta man arrested in stabbing of two elderly women

An Augusta man has been arrested and charged in connection to the stabbing of two elderly women.

Michael Edward Whitehead, 21, of the 2100 block of Walton Way, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault on a person age 65 or older and one count of possession of a firearm or knife during a crime.

According to Sgt. Monica Belser, deputies received a report at about 2:55 p.m. Thursday of a possible stabbing in the 2000 block of Hampton Avenue.

Two female victims, ages 79 and 83, were identified and transported to AU Medical Center for treatment.

Whitehead was later taken into custody by a Richmond County Board of Education officer. Whitehead had one of the victim’s purses in his possession and he was covered in blood, according to the incident report.
