Trees For Troops Giveaway

An annual Christmas Festival and Giveaway brought holiday cheer to service members and their families at Fort Gordon Thursday evening.

Prior to exploration of a Chris Kringle Vendor Village and enjoying an evening hay ride and bonfire service members and their families lined around Barton Field to collect a tree.

During the Trees for Troops Giveaway more than 400 families of active duty service members, E-1 through E-6, lined around Barton Field to present their military IDs and receive a free Christmas tree.

A letter was attached to each individual tree that was distributed during the Trees for Troops Giveaway. The letters were written by children from each school district where the tree was imported.

Volunteers from Fort Gordon and NCO Academy helped distribute trees during the Trees for Troops Giveaway at Fort Gordon Thursday.

As festivities kicked off families explored the Chris Kringle Vendor Village and enjoyed hayrides, refreshments and live musical entertainment.

The festival concluded with a vist from Santa Claus and lighting of the Christmas Tree on Barton Field and Freedom Park.
