Student arrested and charged after school bus stabbing in Augusta

A student has been arrested and is facing charges in connection to a stabbing on a Richmond County school bus Thursday morning.

 

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. after the female student, who has not been identified, had an altercation with another student.

The student stabbed the victim in the shoulder and fled the bus after the driver stopped the vehicle to call dispatch for assistance, a spokesman from the Richmond County School System said.

She was later apprehended by Richmond County Sheriff’s Office near Highland Ave. before being turned over to the Richmond County Board of Education police and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon on school grounds and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, a news release from Richmond County School System states.

The wounded victim was transported to AU Medical Center were she received stitches, a spokesman from the school system said Thursday morning.

The bus was en route to the Alternative Education Center at Lamar during the time of the incident.
