Probation revoked for man six months after plea to statutory rape

An Augusta man sentenced to probation in May for statutory rape was re-sentenced Thursday to prison.

Warren Smith, 33, was initially charged with aggravated child molestation for having sex with a child under the age of 16 from November 2012 to November 2014. He pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court in May to a reduced charge of statutory rape and received a six-year probation term.

On Sept. 15 Smith’s probation officer filed a motion to revoked his probation after finding he had had contact with minors, possessed pictures of minors, and possessed pornography, all of which violated the special conditions for sex offenders.

Judge J. Wade Padgett revoked the remainder of Smith’s probation Thursday and ordered him incarcerated for five years, five months and three days.
