Police looking for North Augusta bank robber

A manhunt is underway after a bank robbery in North Augusta.


The black man entered the South State Bank at Georgia and Buena Vista avenues at 12:52 p.m., demanded money from a cash register and threatened to cause immediate harm to a teller, according to a news release from North Augusta Public Safety.

The robber left the bank on foot and headed south on Georgia Avenue with the money, the release stated.

He was described as 5-foot-8, with a medium build and dark skin. He wore a black hooded jacket over a white collared shirt with green stripes, police said.

North Augusta police are investigating the robbery.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the robbery about 1 p.m. after the robber was thought to have crossed over the 13th Street bridge, according to police dispatchers.

The Aiken County Bloodhound Team and the FBI are assisting with the investigation.
