A memorial service for a hunter whose body was found in the Phinizy Swamp Management Area last week will be held this week.
The memorial service for Jonathan Ross Amerson, 31, of Augusta, will be held at 11 a.m. at White Oak United Pentecostal Church at 2182 White Oak Road in Thomson. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Amerson went missing around 10 a.m. last Tuesday after telling a friend he was going duck hunting at Phinizy Swamp in Augusta, according to the coroner’s office. The hunter’s body was found in the swamp Wednesday afternoon.
An autopsy for Amerson was completed Friday morning at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta but toxicology and histology results are pending, according to Richmond County deputy coroner Kenneth Boose. Natural causes are not ruled out, he said.
An obituary for Amerson states he was “an avid hunter and fisherman” who “loved the outdoors.”
