McDuffie County man killed in accident

A McDuffie County man died Monday following a single-vehicle accident off White Oak Road.

According to McDuffie County Coroner Foster Wylie, 44-year-old Dexter Martin of Dearing died as a result of blunt force trauma from the accident that happened after 3 p.m. Martin was transported to University Hospital McDuffie, where he was later pronounced dead.

Georgia State Patrol trooper Austin Wynn said Martin, a driver for CLN Trucking in Thomson, was traveling east on White Oak Road and suffered from some type of medical issue near Ginger Hill Road.

The truck moved into the westbound lane and exited the road at the left shoulder, traveled 207 feet, struck a culvert with the truck’s undercarriage and then traveled 132 feet and struck a ditch, Wynn said. After impact, the truck traveled 18 feet and crashed through a fence, then traveled 351 feet through the field and stopped, facing east.
