Augusta woman’s death called suspicious

An Augusta woman is dead from injuries sustained after an incident in early October.

Tiquanya Jones, 24, of Augusta, died at the Jospeh M. Still Burn Center at 11:39 a.m. Thursday , according to a news release from Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

Jones sustained burns on over 80 percent of her body after an incident that took place around midnight on Oct. 11 at a residence in the 3100 block of Skinner Mill Road, the news release states.

The case is a suspicious death and is being investigated by the coroner’s office and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, according to Bowen.

The body was sent to the GBI Lab for an autopsy.
