A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting Sunday.
Laron Mickens, 34, was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated assault and weapon violations in connection with the shooting of Frederick Booker. He was shot multiple times outside Heritage Apartments on Sunday at about 1 a.m.
Booker was pronounced dead at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday at Augusta University Medical Center, according to Richmond County coroner Mark Bowen.
Mickens was convicted of armed robbery in 2002. He served 10 years in prison, according to court and Department of Corrections records.
An autopsy has been scheduled for later this week at the GBI lab in Atlanta. The shooting remains under investigation by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the coroner’s office.
