Man charged with attempted murder in Aiken County shooting

An Aiken County woman was wounded in a shooting by her common-law spouse early Saturday, authorities say.

Aiken County sheriff’s deputies responding to the 800 block of Richardsons Lake Road found a woman in the garage with a gunshot wound at at about 4:30 a.m.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, the victim told deputies that she was arguing with her common-law spouse when he shot her with a handgun. The woman was taken to a hospital.

The spouse, identified as Trevor Jataurus Mckie, 31, was taken to the Aiken County Detention Center. He has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The shooting remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
