The mother of an elementary school pupil officials confiscated a stolen handgun from Tuesday has been arrested and charged in connection to the incident.
Tangie Tykiri Pearson, 28, was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly placed a stolen 9 mm handgun into her 8-year-old’s backpack and allowed the pupil to take the gun to Windsor Spring Elementary in Augusta.
Pearson is charged with theft by receiving stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Kaden Jacobs, the director of communications for the Richmond County School System, said the handgun was found in the backpack after the pupil showed it to peers. Students notified their teacher and the administration, along with the school resource officer, he said Tuesday.
During an initial appearance at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon, Judge H. Scott Allen granted Pearson a $10,000 bond. He also warned her about the dangers of letting a minor have access to a weapon.
