Off-duty Richmond County investigator killed in collision

An off-duty Richmond County sheriff’s investigator was killed in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon.

Christian Gandy was riding his motorcycle on Old Waynesboro Road near the Burke County line when he struck a deer crossing the roadway.

Gandy was hired by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 when he was 25 and steadily worked his way through the ranks, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. Christian was promoted to investigator in May and proved he had a promising career in law enforcement, Capt. Allan Rollins wrote.

The accident occurred at 2:45 p.m. and Gandy was thrown from his motorcycle. The cause of death was blunt force trauma, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.
