Report of house fire turns into homicide investigation in Screven County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a death in Screven County.

On Tuesday at approximately 12:16 p.m., the Screven County fire department and sherrif’s office responded to reports of a house fire at 5749 Statesboro Highway in Sylvania, according to a news release from the GBI.

Upon entering the home, firefighters discovered the body of Lisa Scott, 56.

Scott’s death is being investigated as a homicide. The cause of death and the fire are currently under investigation, the release states.
