Fire in Martinez leads to Columbia Road closure

Firefighters from the Columbia County Fire Department responded to an early morning fire at a business on the 4300 block of Columbia Road in Martinez.

Chief Brent Willis with the fire department said a firefighter, who was on his way to work, called in the fire at 6:41 a.m. after noticing smoke coming from the area.

The building was vacant and no injuries were reported, Willis said.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control after closing Columbia Road at Hammond Circle to lay a water supply line.

The road reopened after fire crews attended to hot spots.
