One in custody, three more wanted in connection to vehicle theft

A man is in police custody after leading deputies on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Jerome Kendall Burley, 18, of Augusta, was arrested Monday afternoon for stealing a vehicle on Broad Street at Westview Avenue and and then fleeing police. He is charged with theft by receiving stolen property and obstruction of law enforcement officer.

A report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office states three other suspects fled from the moving vehicle while a deputy attempted a traffic stop at an intersecting street.

The vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse, continued toward Wood Street, and rammed into the driver’s side of a 1999 Toyota Corolla, which in turn struck the driver’s side of a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer, the report states.

Burley ran between apartment buildings along the road before being caught by a deputy.
