Arrest made in connection to suspicious death of man in hotel room

A woman is in custody in connection with a suspicious death after the body of a man was discovered Thursday at the Ramada Limited on Gordon Highway.


Leslie Harris, 40, of Fleming Avenue, was arrested by Richmond County sheriff’s deputies Thursday afternoon after authorities found Michael Davenport, 50, of Elizabeth Drive, unresponsive in a motel room.

She has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Deputies were called to the motel at 2154 Gordon Highway at 12:58 p.m. after staff found Davenport in room 105.

Davenport had at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso and died at the scene, according to a news release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators located and arrested Harris in the 500 block of Fleming Avenue, the news release states.
