Richmond County kidnapping victim located

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has located a man wanted for kidnapping and assaulting a woman on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Michael McDaniel of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, William Cherry, 21, of Atlanta was located just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday. The kidnapping victim, Cherry’s girlfriend Mysia Lamar, 22, was found and is safe.

At 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to the 2800 block of Aylesbury Drive in Augusta for a domestic dispute. When deputies arrived, witnesses told them Cherry had physically assaulted his girlfriend, Lamar .

Witnesses tried to stop the attack, but Cherry forced Lamar into a 2014 white Nissan Versa with Georgia license plate QBP7448 before driving away.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office notified the Georgia State Patrol and law enforcement in surrounding counties. Information on possible criminal charges has not been released.
