Burke man arrested in shooting death

One man is dead and another is in jail, facing murder charges after a shooting in Waynesboro early Sunday.

Marion Leon Hamilton Jr., 36, was charged with first degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a news release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

He was arrested shortly after the shooting, which happened about 1 a.m. in Magnolia Acres. The 35-year-old victim’s identity was not released Sunday. He was shot several times, according to the release.

Hamilton had facial injuries, apparently from a struggle with the victim, and was checked by Burke County EMA.
