Augusta man sentenced to lengthy prison term for domestic violence

An Augusta man with a history of domestic violence was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison.

Once Nijal Ramsey, 21, completes the incarceration period, he will have an additional 10 years to serve on probation, Judge Daniel J. Craig ruled.

Ramsey pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to aggravated assault. On Oct. 22, 2016, he struck a woman in the face with a handgun. At the time, Ramsey was free on bond in a drug case. He also pleaded guilty to those charges Friday.

Ramsey has a pending battery case in Richmond County State Court. He is accused of punching and knocking a woman to the ground on Oct. 19, 2016. Ramsey has a prior conviction for battery for punching a third woman in the face in December 2015.
