Suspect in Augusta shooting surrenders

The man suspected in a fatal shooting at Big Oak Park on Sunday is behind bars.

Tyedon Dana Burton, 25, was being sought on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Burton surrendered at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office administration building about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Malcolm Quarterman, 22, of the 3100 block of Lake Forest Drive, was shot at least once at the park at Wheeler and Boy Scout roads about 6:49 p.m. Sunday, Coroner Mark Bowen stated in a news release.

According to the sheriff’s office, Quarterman was taken to Doctors Hospital by a private vehicle and died at 10:47 p.m. Monday at the hospital.
