A fire Monday at a house on Reserve Lane is being investigated as arson, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire at 2105 Reserve Lane in Augusta occurred around 1:59 p.m., a sheriff’s office report states.
A Richmond County Marshal at the residence to serve an eviction notice smelled smoke coming from the home, according to the report. When the marshal opened the front door he was met with a wall of smoke.
Firefighters on the scene found a large pile of smoldering embers in the center of a larger pile of plastic objects, clothing and papers in a second floor bedroom, the report states.
The report states there were no signs of accellerants.
The majority of the damage appeared to have been contained in the room where the fire was started, the report states.
