Bond denied to man who allegedly shot at deputy

A request for bond was denied Wednesday for a man accused of wounding an acquaintance and shooting at a sheriff’s deputy.

Roy Williams Jr., 37, has been held in jail without bond since his Feb. 5 arrest. He has pleaded not guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, theft by receiving stolen property and weapon violations.

Williams is accused of shooting Jerrell Grant inside a Wrightsboro Road home and then shooting at Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Gould who was sent to the scene. According to an earlier report in The Augusta Chronicle, Williams allegedly barricaded himself inside the home. Sheriff negotiators talked him into surrendering.
