UPDATE: Suspect named in fatal Sunday shooting


The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man suspected of involvement in a fatal shooting Sunday.


Tyedon Dana Burton, 25, is being sought on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Malcolm Quarterman, 22, of the 3100 block of Lake Forest Dr., was shot at least once at Big Oak Park at Wheeler Road and Boy Scout Road at about 6:49 p.m. Sunday, Coroner Mark Bowen stated in a news release.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Quarterman was transported to Doctors Hospital by a private vehicle, and died at 10:47 p.m. Monday at the hospital.

According to a news release, Burton may still be in possession of the firearm used in the shooting and should be considered armed and dangerous. Burton is known to spend time in the area of Big Oak Park. Burton was last seen driving a black or dark-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan Sentra with a Georgia license plate.
