Burke County Sheriff’s Office makes arrests in connection to month long drug investigation

Four people were arrested in a drug bust by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office on Friday


Billy Gregory Watts, Rosemary Gispert, William Alan James and Billie Jo Thompkins were arrested after a search of the residences, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Watts and Gispert were arrested for possession of a methamphetamine. James was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, a misdeameanor, and Tompkins for possession of a schedule II narcotics, possession of schedule IV with intent to distribute and felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

More arrests are likely to follow in the ongoing investigation, the news release states.

Members of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, CID, Special Operations and Road Patrol assisted in the investigation.

“We have teamed up with local, state, and federal agencies in an effort to reduce violence by lowering recidivism and removing drugs and guns from the county,” Chief Deputy Lewis Blanchard said. Our CID Lt. Ben Harman serves on the ATF Task Force which has helped us take gun cases to federal court resulting in longer sentencing with less of a burden on local taxpayers.”

Sheriff Alfonso Williams said such investigations assist with lowering crime rates.

“Removing drug dealers from our county is a top priority and has been able to help us lower violent crimes by 80 percent and property crimes by 50 percent to date compared to last year,” he said.
