Electricity restored to nearly all Georgia Power customers in Augusta

There were fewer than 500 customers without power in Richmond and Columbia counties today as Georgia Power met its goal of restoring power to 95 percent of its Augusta customers who lost electricity due to Tropical Storm Irma ahead of a noon Saturday estimate.

The utility’s outage map showed 99 of its 77,166 customers in Richmond County still without power as of 5 p.m.today and 371 of 57,887 in Columbia County, which is greater than 95 percent restoration in both counties. Statewide, Georgia Power had 35,000 customers waiting to be restored.Jefferson Energy Cooperative’s customers had their power restored today and South Carolina Electric and Gas announced today it also had completed all of its restoration efforts.

Georgia Power set a 10 p.m. Saturday deadline to restore power to 95 percent of its customers in the remaining major cities in Georgia, including hard-hit Savannah, Brunswick and Valdosta.
