UPDATE: All Columbia County schools to reopen Wednesday; McDuffie, Jefferson schools to remain closed

Schools in the Columbia County School District will reopen Wednesday beginning at their usual times. Power has been restored at North Columbia Elementary School and that school will open again on Wednesday.

“We are sorry so many people have been affected by Hurricane Irma. Parents of children unable to return to school tomorrow because of storm-related issues should provide a written excuse for the absence upon their children’s return to school,” the district stated in a news release.

Please continue to monitor our website and social media for more information, the release states.

•The McDuffie County School System will remain closed Wednesday. Two schools and many students and staff members in the county do not have power.

The Prime Time After School Program will also be closed.

•According to the Jefferson County High School Facebook page, all Jefferson County schools are cancelled Wednesday due to power outages and unsafe travelling conditions. An announcement will be made about Thursday as soon as possible.

All East Georgia State College campuses will remain closed through Wednesday. Current power outages and travel uncertainties create conditions that warrant continued closure. All campuses of EGSC will reopen Thursday for normal operations.
