Augusta man pleads guilty to mugging nun

An Augusta man admitted Thursday that he mugged a nun back in 2009.

Marion Duncan, 49, pleaded guilty in Richmond County Superior Court to robbery and to an unrelated charge of entering an automobile with intent to commit a crime.

Duncan was indicted this year on the robbery charge after a routine DNA test of prison inmates matched Duncan to the Sept. 4, 2009 mugging of a nun. Because the victim has since died, Assistant District Attorney Leah Chalkley agreed to recommend a sentence of five years probation on top of the 11 months Duncan has served awaiting trial.

Duncan has prior convictions dating back to two counts of armed robbery in 1989.
