According to a news release, the Waynesboro Police Department and Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 900 block of Kingston Drive in Waynesboro at about 1:30 p.m.

Officers identified a suspect and went to the 800 block of Washington Drive, where they located the suspect’s vehicle being loaded on a wrecker. At that time, the suspect fired at officers, who returned fire.

Before the Burke County SWAT Team could arrive, the suspect approached officers while firing a weapon and was wounded in the process.
