Longtime Augusta Engineering Director Abie Ladson has resigned, he confirmed Tuesday.
Ladson tendered his resignation Monday, giving three months’ notice that makes him eligible for the six months’ severance pay he gets under current city personnel policies.
Generally liked by commissioners, Ladson said in the letter he had enjoyed his 13 years in city government but is resigning to pursue other career opportunities.
Commissioner Grady Smith said Ladson will be missed.
“He’s been run like a racehorse. You’ve got to take care of good people,” Smith said. “I know wherever he’s going, he’ll do real well.”
Smith said Augusta should shift its priorities to “people,” rather than “buildings.”
“We’ve got some of our priorities backwards,” he said.
