Fort Gordon will open its gates to the public Friday evening when Independence Day celebrations get underway at the Army facility.
The Barton Field festivities are an annual event and have drawn thousands of patrons in previous years. The event is coordinated by the Fort Gordon Morale, Welfare, and Recreation office. This year’s celebration includes carnival rides for kids, military displays and craft and food vendors.
Live entertainment will run from 5-11 p.m. and will feature country music artists Randy Houser and Jon Langston. A fireworks display is scheduled to begin at nightfall.
Gates one, two and five will be opened to public traffic beginning at 5 p.m. Patrons age 16 and older are required to show identification for base access and all vehicles entering are subject to random inspection. Fort Gordon authorities are asking attendees to arrive early to help minimize traffic delays at the gates.
