Coroner identifies man found dead in the Savannah River

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Savannah River on Saturday morning after a man’s body was discovered floating in the river.

According to Richmond County coroner Mark Bowen, the man has been identified as Charles Williams, 66, of Greenville, S.C. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:35 Saturday morning.

Deputies, the criminal investigative division and the coroner’s office were called to the Savannah River at about 11 a.m. The white male was found in the river near the 5th Street Marina.

The body will be transported to Atlanta for an autopsy.
