Two wounded in Aiken shooting

Two people were wounded in a shooting near downtown Aiken on Thursday afternoon.

According to Capt. Martin Sawyer of the Aiken Department of Public Safety, officers responded to calls about a shooting in the 100 block of Kershaw Street about 3:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to AU Medical Center.

Police later received a call that a second male was at Aiken Regional Medical Centers emergency room with a gunshot wound from the same incident. He was later transported to AU Medical Center. The condition of the two is not available.

The shooting was near Schofield Middle School, but students were dismissed at noon due to the half-day schedule for the last day of school.
