Comcast NBCUniversal has awarded nine Augusta students with $1,000 scholarships for the 2017 school year as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.
The program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, recognizes “the best and brightest” high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills. According to a news release, students were recognized at A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School; Westside High School; John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School; Aquinas High School; Richmond County Technical Career Magnet School; Lucy C. Laney High School; Butler High School; Academy of Richmond County; and Westminster Schools of Augusta.
The philosophy behind the program is to give young people opportunities to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities.
