What: Young sugar maple trees have been incorrectly mulched into a volcano shape.
Where: Along Henry Street
Why problem: While mulching is a great practice, you must pull the mulch away from the base of the tree by six inches. Mulch helps conserve moisture, but moisture at the base of the tree can cause a number of problems, including rot.
Action promised: A message left for recreation department Director Glenn Parker wasn’t returned late Friday afternoon. The problem can be corrected by just pulling back the mulch from the base of the tree.
