Teenager dies in Columbia County shooting

A 17-year-old is dead following an early morning shooting in Columbia County.

At 2:47 a.m., Columbia County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 4100 block of Coventry Avenue following reports of a burglary in progress with a wounded suspect.

Columbia County sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said deputies found Jordan Middleton dead in the foyerfrom a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to an emailed statement from Morris, Middleton was in the home to visit a 14-year-old girl, who let him in. The girl’s father, Derrick Fulton, heard noises downstairs, armed himself and went to investigate. The family dog was barking toward the guest bedroom, so Fulton said that he was armed and told the person he thought was a burglar to identify himself. After giving a second warning, Fulton entered the room. Middleton ran out of the closet and was shot once in the upper chest.

No charges have been filed in the case.

A 17 Y/O hooked up with a 14 Y/O at 2:40+AM in daddy's house?

So many things that can be said ....

I am sure daddy is going to have a VERYYYYYYYYYY long talk with a Daughter, before her next after mid-night date.

For his picture

"...nothing that girl offered was worth his life."
And yet, that's EXACTLY what it cost him.  Sad...

Condolences to both families. What a sad set of circumstances. One family has lost a son and the other has to live with the fact that he shot and killed someone. The shooter was not at fault as he thought he was protecting his home and family from an intruder. The young man should have fessed up to why he was in the house.

How was a 17 year old out at almost 3AM? Where were his parents? The girl deserves a big part of the blame for this death.

Right...right...and right.  3 great points.  Had this kid not have been out of his house like this, he wouldn't be dead now...probably.  Two stupid kids...hate to be blunt about it, but it's true.  They were letting other parts of their bodies do the thinking for them.

Kids do stupid things, always have, always will. Sadly, the price is often very steep. Prayers for both families.

The girl should have spoke up , and told her Dad , it was her friend over visiting - so the Father wouldn't have shot him ! Prayers go out to his hurting , devastated family and friends .
