Suspects sought for thefts at Walmart

Two people are wanted in connection with using reprogrammed gift cards at local Wal-Marts.

Between Dec. 31 and Feb. 10, the unidentified criminals used gift cards reprogrammed with stolen debit/credit card numbers to make purchases. According to Columbia County sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris, the criminals have struck at Wal-Mart stores in Columbia and Richmond counties.

They use only self-service terminals and have discovered how to defeat the embedded chips that the original cards have, Morris said. The targeted bank cards so far have been SRP Federal Credit Union, Augusta Metro Federal Credit Union, VAH Bank and Security Federal.

With all the technological wonders, why are there still so many vulnerabilities in our credit, debit and gift cards.

With all the great photos of these thieves,  there shouldn't be any reason they won't end up in prison or are they the same ones who already have a record as long as my arm and are still allowed to walk the street.  The "Three Strike" rule should be administered - two strikes would be even better.

If it has to do with $$$$$$, there are endless ways to corrupt the system.

Great photos, no surprise in the pictures.

Great photos?  Funny!  With the advancements in camera technology there is no reason for crappy photo quality like these.  Wal-Mart needs to invest in some upgrades.  No wonder people get off!
