Augusta woman to serve time over box cutter attack

An Augusta woman accused of cutting another woman’s cheek with a box cutter pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated assault.

Jakeria McBride, 21, entered her plea in Richmond County Superior Court. Judge J. Wade Padgett sentenced McBride to two years in prison followed by five years on probation. He granted McBride’s request to be sentenced under the First Offender Act.

On Aug. 15, 2015, McBride joined several friends who went to fight with another group of young women. McBride took a box cutter, which she used to cut Roberta Sturgis’ face.
