A new, nearly 85,000-square-foot Belk department store is expected to anchor phase II of Mullins shopping center in Evans.
Although no official announcements have been made, commercial real estate firm Collette has started advertising on its website for about 37,4000 square feet that is available for lease surrounding Belk.
The site also states that phase II will include a new intersection with signals and has outparcels available for “build-to-suit or ground lease.”
Site plans shown on Collette’s website indicate that two retail spaces, one about 18,241 square feet and the other about 6,700 square feet, will be situated to the left and right of Belk. Two additional retail spaces, one about 19,161 square feet and the other about 12,651 square feet, are shown at the front of the shopping center, closer to Washington Road.
In addition, construction market data service LDILine’s website shows that as of Monday, contractor R.W. Allen entered a bid for new construction on 50,000 to 100,000 square feet for Belk No. 636 in Evans, to be at 4201 Washington Road. At the site, R.W. Allen signs have been posted and a large gravel driveway to access the site has been installed.
Last week, Belk’s vice president for communications and community relations, Jessica M. Graham, would not confirm the announcementbut stated that the company was working on a news release.
Asked to confirm whether Belk would anchor the second phase of Mullins Crossing, Columbia County public relations manager Cassidy Harris stated by email last week that the county was unaware of any announcement made by the developers.
Work at the site appeared to be underway Monday. Signs posted at the site advertised a public hearing, scheduled Thursday with the Columbia County Planning Commission regarding a variance to section 90-96 Evans Town Center Overlay District. The meeting will be at 630 Ronald Reagan Drive, Building A auditorium, at 6 p.m.
