The Augusta Chronicle’s Empty Stocking Fund has helped make Christmas better for those who needed it for 86 years.
Looking back over the decades, we see that the times change, but the needs do not. Here is an example from December 2001 of a mother’s plea for her children.
Working while attending school is hard enough, she said, but so is raising two children when times are tough.
“I am asking for help for my children,” she wrote The Chronicle. “ I would love for them to have the joy of the holidays like all the other little boys and girls.”
The Augusta Chronicle Empty Stocking Fund has helped people such as this since 1930. Last year, the charity raised more than $100,000 for children and families across the region.
Donations are tax-deductible.
